Storysmith HQ | Our dream home

It's all happening. In a few weeks, we'll have the keys to our new home (nicknamed Storysmith HQ as an amalgamation of our surnames). But - alas - we won't be moving in for quite some time. It's a project you see...

Up there is our Pinterest board, collecting the sorts of things we want to achieve with the house. All very well, but right now it looks like this:

Terrifying! It doesn't even have central heating. But look at all that potential...

We've enlisted the help of Federica Vessetti, my favourite Bristol architect, who is designing a new layout for the ground floor. We'll be knocking through the side return to create a huge kitchen/dining room, complete with exposed brick wall and - swoon - my favourite Crittall-style windows and doors.

Upstairs, we're extending into the loft to create two bedrooms and a bathroom, essential when you have five kids to house! And downstairs, that annoying middle room will be split between kitchen and living room, to create a utility room on one side and an office on the other.

It's going to be a long old slog and we certainly won't be in until the middle of next year, which is not easy for a massively impatient person like me! But it'll be worth it. Meanwhile, we're figuring out what we want, what will work and what we can afford.

First stop today - Grand Designs Live at Birmingham NEC. Can't wait to get to know all the brilliant companies that'll be there, and I'll make sure I share what I find over here and on Instagram.

Wish us luck!
