A little piece of Devon

  by oysterpots

Devon is a very special place for us, as we were married at the wonderful Burgh Island hotel, itself (in part) a product of many childhood holidays visiting my grandma who lived in Kingsbridge. So when our friends Abi and Byron asked us to meet up with them in half term we jumped at the chance. Staying in (almost) adjoining chalets, we very quickly established an excellent routine and the kids bounded from chalet to chalet playing, laughing and generally having a brilliant time.

The weather was kind to us, and we spent most days down on the beach - Bantham and Blackpool Sands. The kids and dogs ran themselves silly while we grown ups drank Thermos coffee and ate crisps.

T could not have been happier spending a week outdoors, and A has a new hero in Abi and Byron's son, Reuben.

Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair

Yesterday I helped out at Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair. The Fair is chock full of amazing vintage wedding suppliers, including Fee from Beehive Brides who fashioned me with a rather spectacular beehive. I helped with the first fair, this time last year, and that's when I had a first taste of sixties hair and have been pining for vertiginous hair ever since.

I took a Lido lunch break today...

...and went to my favourite cafe and ate/read orange things.

It's too easy to wolf down a sandwich at my desk, and this is what normally happens, but it's a much better idea to go out, eat something delicious in different surroundings.

Splash @lidobristol by oysterpots
The Lido couldn't provide lovelier surroundings - the slow splash of a swimmer ploughing up and down, the hum of sun-drenched, happy customers. And only five minutes from my office.

I ate a wedge of tortilla, with a feta and pumpkin salad. I drank an almond presse - when I first heard about this drink I couldn't quite imagine how it would taste. Turns out it's sharp but sweet, light but somehow substantial. Delicious.
Oh, and the book is for an upcoming exhibition - should be a good 'un.
