Vegan Christmas shopping list | Mince pies, cake, chocolate and more PLUS recipes

As World Vegan Month draws to a close and Christmas really starts to ramp up, I've been spending my first festive season without eggs and dairy in a bit of a quandary. What will I do without my standard December diet of mince pies, Christmas cake and other end of year treats? Turns out, there are so many options out there in UK supermarkets and on the high street that I don't need to worry at all.

My first inkling that things would be absolutely fine as a vegan this Christmas was pottering around in Waitrose. Checking box after box of mince pies I had the hump, initially thinking NONE of my favourite festive foods would be available to me anymore. But there they were... Waitrose Essential mince pies - completely dairy and egg free! A Christmas miracle.

There must be others out there, I thought. And yes! A trip to Costa with a friend yielded a vegan Christmas cake slice. I took to one of the vegan groups on Facebook to ask the members there what other vegan Christmas foods they could recommend, and the floodgates opened. It seems there's a vegan option for everything and not resigned to the Free From aisle, either.

The following list includes products that are all readily available from supermarkets and high street shops, all are reasonably priced and vegan. Please leave me a comment if I've missed out something crucial.

Happy Christmas!

CHRISTMAS PUDDING

Hotel Chocolat sells a 'reimagined' Christmas pudding: 'Puddles of 70% dark chocolate melt into the mix with a generous glug of our English vodka infused with caramel.' £15

Aldi is coming up trumps with quite a few vegan options this year, including one of their Christmas puddings (will go and investigate which one).

Likewise, two types are available at Morrisons. We're spoilt for choice!

STOLLEN

I adore stollen and I'm so pleased to share that most if not all of the stollens sold in Aldi are vegan, including the mini ones (traditional and apple) plus the standard size. Not sure about the stollen bites yet... Happy to go and check ;)

CHRISTMAS CAKE

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

That Costa Christmas Cake slice I mentioned earlier comes in a pre-packaged portion for one and costs £1.80, but I'm struggling to find many more.

In case I can't, here's a recipe for a vegan Christmas cake and one for a vegan Panettone.

BISCUITS

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

Good old Aldi, they triumph again in this category with their dark chocolate Lebkuchen - yum!

And it's a family tradition to bake biscuits for the tree so this year we'll be using this vegan Christmas biscuit recipe.

MINCE PIES

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without a mince pie, and luckily there are loads of vegan options out there.

Asda mince pies are labelled vegan and cost 85p for 6.

The mince pies in the Bakery section of both Spar and Co-op are vegan.

The aforementioned Waitrose Essential mince pies happen to be vegan, too.

If you're out then try Café Nero mince pies (£2 or £1.80 take away) or I think Costa does one.

If you want to make your own vegan mince pies, then Sainsbury’s mince meat is definitely vegan.

PASTRIES

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

Both of Aldi's frozen strudels are vegan, and SO GOOD.

Jusrol happens to be vegan so if it's a festive pain au chocolat or cinnamon swirl you're after then you can bake your own at home.

Tesco frozen churros are vegan. Who knew?!

CHOCOLATES

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

We should just rename it Chocmas and be done with it, shouldn't we? There are so many vegan chocolate options out there that will be perfect for a sweet treat this Christmas.

Lidl do some chocolate creams and a dark chocolate reindeer as well as chocolate covered marzipan for just £1. Their Rum Barrels are also vegan and delicious.

Back in Aldi, you can buy a box of Quality Street-style fondant creams including Violet, Rose, Orange and Strawberry for just £1.49.

If it's After Eight style mints you want, Aldi and Tesco both do vegan mint thins.

And here's a recipe to make your own vegan chocolate truffles - good for a foodie gift?

CRISPS & NUTS

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

Weirdly, the following all sound either meaty or just insane, but all are vegan.

Sainsburys Maple Bacon flavour pretzels.

Tesco Finest Candy Cane crisps and Pigs in Blankets flavour coated peanuts.

M&S Prosecco crisps.

SANDWICHES

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

The Christmas sandwich is so a thing, isn't it?

This year, Pret are doing a vegan Christmas sandwich as are Tesco.

DRINKS

Easy vegan options for Christmas favourites - mince pies, cake, chocolate, drinks, sandwiches, biscuits and pastries - all dairy free and easily available on from UK supermarkets and high street shops. Plus recipes to make your own vegan Christmas treats.

M&S gold crème brulée liquor is vegan... and it's got sparkly bits in it!

I'm a total convert to Haig Club whisky.

Hotel Chocolat booze is vegan and good for a gift. I like the sound of the Salted Caramel vodka liqueur.

I still haven't located the almond milk Baileys though... Anyone know a good supplier?

And I do love an egg nog - here's how to make your own vegan egg nog.

I think I probably have to resign myself to the fact that Snowballs are a thing of the past, don't I?

Phew! Please let me know if I've missed anything.

And I should probably say that this is not a sponsored post but one written as an easy resource to refer to when out and about. Here's to a Happy Christmas.
