Review: A party with HP Instant Ink Refer-a-Friend

Last week, I gathered together seven friends for an evening of cocktails, delicious food and beauty treatments. My task? As well as enjoying their company and much uproarious laughter, I shared the benefits of HP's Instant Ink service. Want to know more?

Before everyone arrived, I set up my new HP Deskjet 3720 – easy peasy. Often, I shy away from sorting out tech as it's always such a headache to get things working properly. Not this time. I took the printer out of the box, plugged it in and inserted the two ink cartridges. Then, I hooked it up to our WiFi network, downloaded the app to my phone and we were pretty much up and running. So easy! And so small!

As well as a huge array of sandwiches, crisps, olives, cheese, popcorn, grapes, strawberries, scones with cream and jam, cakes and prosecco, HP sent us a USB stick loaded up with colouring sheets plus boxes of colouring pencils. It was quick and easy to get everything printed out and the quality of the printing really impressed me, especially as the HP Deskjet 3270 is the world's smallest all-in-one printer.

One of the main themes of the evening was how quality can enrich almost every experience. Using a box of cheap colouring pencils to colour in our butterflies, mandalas and psychedelic abstract designs was a frustrating experience. The colour didn't take well, the leads kept breaking and it just wasn't much fun. Once we switched to the set of top quality pencils, the difference was obvious. Now, the colours went on so effortlessly, the depth of the shades was noticeably better.

Likewise, we knocked up some cocktails using ingredients from a basic supermarket range. It's been years since my tipple of choice was quite so functional! Think student days, really. Then, we upgraded to the Cosmopolitan made with premium vodka, fresh cranberry and lime juices, and Cointreau. Such a difference.

It's the same with printer ink. The weather was warm and sunny that evening, meaning my friends and I could choose a manicure or pedicure out in the garden from the brilliant Ashley of The Pamper Company. Lovely! As well as the usual gossip, we talked about our home offices (many of us are self-employed meaning no IT support - instead, we make the most of the corners in our house where laptops and printers live). HP's Instant Ink service is perfect for this set up.

Designed to help you save on time and money, HP introduced a ground-breaking ink replacement service that delivers HP Original Ink straight to your door before you even realise you need it, whilst saving up to 70 percent on ink costs. As soon as you enrol in the service and insert the Instant Ink cartridge into a compatible printer, the printer monitors its ink levels, sending out replacement cartridges when needed.

There are three monthly plans available: £1.99 per month for occasional printing [50 pages per month], £3.49 per month for moderate printing [100 pages per month] and £7.99 per month for frequent printing [300 pages per month]. Whether you choose to print in colour, black & white, or photos, your cost is the same. You can also easily modify your monthly plan at any time, with no contracts, hidden costs or annual policies to tie into.

Compatible printers include:
- The HP Deskjet 3720 All-in-One printer starts at £54.99
- The HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One printer starts at £59.99
- The HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer starts at £59.99.
- The HP DeskJet 3630 All-in-one printer starts at £49.99
- The HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One printer starts at £89.00, exclusively at Dixons

Interested? For every friend referred to HP Instant Ink, HP will give us both a free month of the Instant Ink service. If you'd like to sign up using the HP Instant Ink Refer-a-Friend promotion, head here and we'll both get a month of free ink!

And I can't recommend the HP Deskjet 3720 printer highly enough. It's so small, prints direct from devices, and even scans (it's a scroll scan function – clever!).

Thanks so much to the HP team for such a brilliant evening.

Thanks to HP for supplying party food and drink as well as the HP Desktop 3270 printer, ink and paper.
